This Newport beach home [featured on Stikwood] was built for a family that loves to entertain. Our design challenge was to incorporate a modern luxury aesthetic with a fun, whimsical attitude for two young children who love to dream big!
The primary Architectural elements used in this modern exterior are a combination of wood, metal, glass and steel. The house is banded with a black steel fascia, so in a effort to stay contemporary, frosted glass garage doors with black mullions were installed. The Ipe wood slats pull the strong exterior elements together to create a warm curb appeal with a bold expression.
Ipe wood is continued in the entry way to connect the design elements of steel, stone and sky, creating a contemporary yet approachable entryway. The 10″ glass door by Fleetwood illustrates the grand scale of the design, and the two adjoining windows at the entry, creates an open effect that allows you to peek into the heart of the home.
The massive white bar [featuring a Caesarstone] 3″ thick miter edge counter top with a waterfall edge makes a bold impression when you first walk in…..”it’s time for wine”!!! As you belly up to the bar you are illuminated by the pendant collection by Tom Dixon hanging overhead. While you ponder your next bottle in the temperature controlled wine rack, you can’t help but admire the beautiful imperfections of the Neolith Calacatta stone. We were able to create a wine bar in the center of a home that didn’t feel heavy by focusing on playful lighting fixtures and light flooring.
Our client has an amazing eye for modern art and we used a favorite piece from her collection as the focal point for this dining room. The wood slab table and chairs are by Magni Home. We combined different shades of brass in each of the pieces and it worked out amazing. The light fixture was sourced from Restoration Hardware Modern and the bowls from Global Views.
In the kitchen the continuity was maintained by repeating the Caesarstone 3″ thick countertop with a waterfall edge. The sunlight looks great on this wide plank white oak flooring throughout the house. We keep the kitchen very clean and modern, the kitchen cabinets are built with hydraulic hinges and open like a fancy sports car door. The backsplash is vein cut silver travertine that provides an elegant backdrop for the chrome plumbing fixtures.
The built-in breakfast nook is upholstered with commercial grade fabric ready for messes and uh oh’s. The table from CB2 was originally glass, but we replaced it with a slab from Arizona Tile. If the Arteriors Caviar rose gold pendant cluster doesn’t provide enough of a chic-factor, we added accent pillows from Kelly Wearstler for a bit of glam to go with your breakfast jam. 😉
For the built in kitchen desk, we sourced a red Lucite armless chair and a vintage mannequin head from the Pasadena Rose Bowl Flea Market. This is not just a prop but a pop of color!!

This romantic family room features a silver travertine stacked stone wall with build in gas fireplace. It also features some selected works from our clients art collection and furniture from Thomas Lavin and RH Modern.
Wow!!! The wallpaper is from Cole and Son and it inspired this hot pink custom velvet sofa. What a fun space to relax and be happy!!!!!!
We transition from sunshine to seduction with this snake skin inspired wallpaper, chrome fixtures by Kohler and polished silver travertine stone throughout. The wall mounted light fixture from RH Modern continues the brass theme from other parts of the house.
Here is a better shot of that tub from Kohler….
The back wall was the feature for this master bedroom and we designed a custom 16″ channel headboard in gray velvet. It took 4 guys to install but it came out great! Also, subtle brag… the grays in the cowhide rug & headboard work together perfectly. The low profile bed was built custom as well and we stained the wood to match the RH Modern nightstands.
Here is a close up of the wallpaper….. it has a dreamy vibe, perfect for a bedroom!!
For the kids bathroom we brightened up the color palate and used this arrow patterned wallpaper. Who wants to play Cowboy’s and Indians???
With the amazing color palate and faux animal heads this room must inspire the imagination during every adventurous bedtime story. The channel headboard is custom and the wallpaper is from Cole and Son. When this room was complete, it “blue” me away!
There are no questions what this room is for….. PLAYING. This great space is an organic oasis for kids to have fun. The reclaimed wood walls from Stickwood really makes the place feel warm and inviting. The Stickwood installation was so easy…a kid could do it!
Why Dream Big???
YOLO!!
