Six months ago when were designing the master bathroom of our Laguna Beach project, we had three requirements:
- It must have a jaw dropping feature wall
- The colors should be organic and blend with the ocean
- The final look must be a piece of art
When brainstorming on concepts, Alex Turco immediately popped into our mind. We were introduced to Turco’s work during his exhibit at Art Basil – an amazing show and perfect place to get design inspiration.
Melissa contacted their studio in Miami and we were sent out some samples based on our requirements. After the standard pondering and feedback from the client, we decided on the Minerals Collection, which looks like an impressive, giant geode and ultra organic.
(Above) The rendering we created for the client captured an organic, ocean-like feel. The moment they saw it, they fell in love and knew we had found or “jaw dropping” feature wall.
This week Alex and his team visited the job site to make sure all the dimensions were correct and no changes were needed. We discovered that we may be able to install the acrylic piece as one giant 6.5″ x 11″ slab, ensuring a smooth and continuous aesthetic.
(Above) The crew gathered to go over the design one final time. The one day I don’t wear sunglasses…these Italian guys totally out-cooled me!
After learning about the process and Alex’s vision to balance photography, multi-media graphics and hand processed materials, we knew we were in good hands and were going to deliver an amazing piece of art.
